Morning Reflection

It's 6am and I'm gazing into the eyes of the most beautiful creation I've ever seen. Caleb is 4 1/2 days old. It's been a wild ride in just that short of time. Last night I was so tired of being a new mom, tired of trying to figure out what Caleb wanted, tired of being sore (everywhere!). But oh, what six hours of sleep and a few good feedings can do! We were headed back to bed for another two hours of sleep, but Caleb was content to gaze around with his beautiful eyes, and I just couldn't miss that. So I'm up! I figure I'll sleep later.

I haven't done anything on the computer until this moment (barring a web cam conversation with family), so I haven't seen photos or read stories; I haven't even pulled my own photos off the camera! I could write 10 posts about the things that have happened, but for now, I'll just say that I am so blessed. So blessed to have a perfect little baby boy, to have a wonderful husband beyond description, to have supportive family and friends, and to have quiet moments like these.

  1. I'm glad you had a quiet moment to reflect on how your world has irrevocably changed. It is WORTH IT!

So glad you got some sleep, that Caleb is eating well, that Jon is so helpful, etc. The soreness will fade soon and is truly temporary.

Be kind to yourself and let others help out. We all love you, Jon, and Caleb and want you to have a good start into parenting.

  2. It is a wild ride...but what an incredible journey!

Can't wait to see pictures of your sweet boy! Although, I really get it if you don't get around to that for the next two or three months.

  4. Awe...I remember those eyes! I think I have memorized his face from my brag picture already. But...I am sure it will look different the next time I see him. Dave and I want to come visit, but want to give you guys your space too....we will talk soon about when it would be best for us to come by because we would like to before the 12th.
    Love you sister!

  6. Wow! I couldn't have said it any better and I have done it three times! I wouldn't trade those moments for anything! I miss them terribly. My baby just turned one Sunday! Treasure these moments now because they pass so quickly! You are truly blessed with a beautiful baby boy! Congratulations!

  7. Well gone are those days for us of an awake baby just contentedly gazing around, but I do tend to hold Ian a little longer and watch him sleep. That's why we're not making much progress in sleep training... because Mama's not ready! :-)

Here's to the sweet, quiet moments. And yeah, forget about the computer, the stories, and the pictures for now... cuz you're living it! But yes, it does go by quickly, so it's nice to have captured those memories for sure!

  8. Glad you're doing well! Those sweet quiet brand new baby memories are the best, but it only gets better from here. The next thing you know, you'll have three little maniacs wanting you to play their "dance music" so they can "shake it." Oh, wait, that's me... :)
