Diaper Bag Purchase

We ordered our diaper bag today! Because it's a pretty big (and long-term) purchase, I was nervous about making the perfect choice. From talking to moms I know, it seemed important to determine the kind of mom I might be. Will I just grab a diaper and a bottle and go, or will I have every possible scenario of the day covered, with sunscreen and a sweater in the same bag, "just in case."

So I thought about what kind of purse I carry. I have two favorites: one is very small with only the basics, and one is very large, with all kinds of random stuff inside. Hm...that doesn't help. But, of all the random things I put in my big bag, it's mostly just because I have the room and not because I need it. I do like lots of pockets, and I don't want to carry a bag and a purse at the same time. I want something I can carry saddle-bag style across my chest, and something that Jon wouldn't mind carrying as well. Finally, I didn't want it to scream, "I'm a mommy!" with it's fluffy diaper bag-ness.

I think it's going to be a perfect fit. It's very streamlined (only 3.5 inches deep), but the bottom expands to 7 inches for those longer trips. So, I can keep it pretty small, and add more when I wish. And it looks more like a book bag than a diaper bag--one I would be happy to carry wherever.

  1. Oh, that is cute! My first diaper bag was what you might call a suitcase. I was (okay, I still am) one of those people that thinks of every possible scenario and then packs everything I might possibly need. And then I would wonder why my back hurt. I used to joke that it balanced me out... carrying the ten-ton diaper bag on one shoulder while carrying the baby in the carseat on the other arm. It's a wonder I'm not skinny from all that exercise.

  3. It looks like you made a great decision! I have to say that I never put that much thought into my diaper bag. Mine is definitely stylish, but I wish it had a bit more room and was a little bit more functional. With baby #2 I will take more time to think about it...you'll have to let me know how you like the skip hop expo!

  4. That is awesome! I'll bet you love it.

I highly suggest something along the lines of a "diapees and wipees" bag (http://www.diapeesandwipees.com/html/products.html) for a little later. That is all we take to the church nursery and it is easy for me to throw in my purse for any quick outing.

  5. ps Don't worry about the diaper bag screaming "I'm a mommy!". The spit-up on your shoulder and bags under your eyes will take care of that!

  6. Very manly! I just hope Jon doesn't mistake it for his book bag one day on his way to class. I can just see him reaching in for his text book and pulling out a tube of butt paste :>).

  7. Very cute! I feel like it needs a C embroidered on the little pocket flap... I might even carry that if I needed too! =)
